Abstract. The effect of inert and organic substrates and two levels of nutrient solution on the yield of greenhouse tomato cv.‘Cunero F1’and ‘Recento F1was studied. It was found that the highest total and Ist grade fruit yield was obtained in growing of tomato in rockwool. There were not significant differences among sawdust, mixture of peat an bark (1:1 v/v) and expanded clay, except ‘Recento F1’ cultivar which produced a significant higher Ist grade fruit yield in growing on the expanded clay than in the organic substrates. Increase of nutrient solution by 20% over the standard caused the decrease of yield for tomato grown in the inert media while it’s enhancement in organic media for both cultivars.

Summary

Research was done in the years 1999-2002. The main aim was to determine the effect of inert (rockwool, expanded clay) and organic substrates (sawdust, peat-bark mixture 1:1 v/v) and two levels of nutrient solutions on the yield of greenhouse tomato cv. ‘Cunero F1’ and ‘Recento F1’. It was found that the highest total and Ist grade fruit yield was in growing of tomato in rockwool. There were not significant differences among sawdust, mixture of peat an bark (1:1 v/v) and expanded clay, except ‘Recento F1’ cultivar which were significant higher Ist grade fruit yield in growing on the expanded clay than in the organic substrates. Increase of nutrient solution by 20% over the standard one caused the decrease of yield for tomato grown in the inert media while it’s enhancement in organic media for both cultivars.
